The Kirkley Award

deb with kirkley awardOn June 26th 2010 the Pikes Peak Rose Society (in Colorado Springs, CO) held their annual rose show. There are 6 states (people in the rocky mountain district) that can come and compete for rose related horticulture, arrangements and photography and it was their turn to host the district rose show.

The district awards are special due to the fact that you must be a member of a local rose society in that district in order to win an award for that district.

I am a member of the national rose organization the American Rose Society as well as the local societies in my community - the Loveland Rose Society and the St. Vrain Rose Society. I compete in at least 2 or 3 rose shows locally every year and have been showing roses and photography for 6 years now here in Colorado.

In this show I entered some horticulture specimens and won 7 ribbons and a small wind chime (always fun to be acknowledged) and also the biggest photography honor at a district show, the Warren L. Kirkley Award.

2010 Kirkley Award Winning PhotoMr. Kirkley was a master at everything ROSE! but particularly rose photography so I am truely honored to have my name engraved on this beautiful trophy (see photo)! Mine will be the 3rd name engraved upon it (with 2 other great photographers that i know from here in Colorado).

This is a perpetual trophy and a great honor to be acknowledged in this way! I get to keep the trophy for the year than next year's district show will be in Utah and the trophy travels there. How cool is that?
